Guadalajara, Mexico to be UNESCO World Book Capital 2022

The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, has named the Mexican city Guadalajara World Book Capital for the year 2022, following the recommendation of the World Book Capital Advisory Committee, which includes IPA.

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay confirmed the Georgian Capital will follow this Sharjah, UAE and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as UNESCO World Book Capital 2021.
Sharjah takes over from Athens as World Book Capital City

On 23 April, World Book and Copyright Day, Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) took over from Athens (Greece) as UNESCO’s World Book Capital City for 2019. The handover was marked with an opening ceremony attended by IPA’s President, Vice President and Secretary General.
Kuala Lumpur announced as UNESCO World Book Capital City 2020

Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, has been confirmed as the 2020 UNESCO World Book Capital City to follow Athens (2018) and Sharjah (2019).
UNESCO names Sharjah World Book Capital 2019

UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova has named Sharjah, widely considered the cultural capital of the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf, UNESCO World Book Capital 2019.
Congratulations, Incheon! Incheon, Korea, Elected World Book Capital 2015
Incheon was named as the “World Book Capital 2015” at the conclusion of the selection committee meeting, which as held recently at UNESCO’s Paris headquarters.
Incheon was selected “on account of the quality of its program, and the impact it will have on improving good integration of all stakeholders in the promotion of books and reading, access to books and writing in all formats to the citizens of Incheon and the Korean Peninsula during World Book Capital year and beyond”.

Port Harcourt was named as the “World Book Capital 2014” at the conclusion of the selection committee meeting, which was held on 5 July 2012 at UNESCO’s Paris headquarters.
