PANZ International Conference 2018 a resounding success

On 28-29 June, IPA’s Vice President, Hugo Setzer, was invited by the Publishers Association of New Zealand to deliver the opening keynote speech at their PANZ International Conference 2018.

At the London Book Fair’s International Excellence Awards on 11th April, Jacks Thomas, Director of the Fair looked back at his career in publishing, which started when he was just 11, and included time at the Times of India Group, Prentice Hall, and his current position as Chairman and Managing Director of PHI Learning where his focus is on low-cost educational books. She closed, calling him “effectively the father of Indian publishing”.
IPA at Salon du Livre de Genève

This year, the annual Salon du Livre de Genève (Geneva Book Fair) took place from 25-29 April. Billed as the second biggest francophone fair in the world (after Paris Livre), the event attracts about 100,000 people every year. It also runs a professional programme for publishers (Les Assises de l’édition), which this year was dedicated to publishing in Africa, and at which the IPA was invited to speak.

U.S. Register of Copyrights Maria Pallante ‘removed from her job’

According to a Billboard report, U.S. Register of Copyrights Maria Pallante was removed from her job on Friday (October 21) by the Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden, who has authority over the Copyright Office. Pallante, who is known for her fair treatment of content creators, has been appointed as a senior digital strategy adviser for the Library of Congress, although industry watchers believe she was pushed out.
IPA 2016 Annual Report released in new three-in-one format

The IPA annual report was presented to the General Assembly this week in Frankfurt. This year’s report is more compact than in previous years, and covers the key aspects of the IPA’s work over the period between October 2015 and October 2016, such as Freedom to Publish, Copyright, Educational Publishing, Literacy, and Accessibility.
