Sri Lankan publishers make donation following bomb attack

Sri Lanka Book Publishing Association with Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith

A delegation of the Sri Lanka Book Publishers Association (SLBPA) met Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo on May 16, 2019 and donated Rs 450,000 to assist poor students affected by the bomb blasts in the 3 churches on April 21. The Publishers Association also offered scholarships with a monthly stipend to 6 students until they graduate from University.

CERLALC publishes mapping of Latin American publishing sector

El espacio iberoamericano del libro 2018 (published by CERLALC, an intergovernmental organization based in Bogotá, Colombia) is mapping the book publishing sector in Latin America, based on data from 19 countries, plus their trade relations with Spain and Portugal.

ASEAN Book Publishing: Markets, Policy, and Copyright

Thai publisher and recent member of the IPA Executive Committee Trasvin Jittidecharak attended a WIPO regional seminar in Seoul in April. As part of her preparations she prepared a detailed report for us on the situation of the publishing industry in the ASEAN region.

At a time when gender balance is a priority for many industries and companies, the publishing industry couldn’t lag behind. Bodour Al Qasimi, IPA’s Vice-President, and Maria Pallante, AAP’s President and CEO, embraced the challenge and launched a network to promote women’s role in shaping leadership in the publishing business.

Publishers Association (UK) report details diversity in publishing

The Publishers Association has continued its ground-breaking work into diversity within the UK publishing industry. Their latest survey reveals that while there are many positives in terms of women in leadership positions and representation of LGBT+ and disabled staff, there is still progress to be made.
