European Publishers React to EU’s Adoption of the Copyright Directive

European Publishers Welcome EU Copyright Directive Progress

Following the postponement of a key meeting on the Copyright Directive on 12 January, there was concern that time was running out for a Directive to be adopted. The European Parliament, Council and Commission came to a compromise in February and adoption is now looking likely.

Europe aligns VAT between eBooks and physical books; ratifies Marrakesh

The International Publishers Association welcomes the news that the EU’s Economic and Financial Affairs Council has unanimously agreed to allow Member States to apply reduced VAT rates to eBooks, bringing them into alignment with physical books, which in most cases carried a lower rate.
